History

Zdar and Boom Bass started working together in 1988, producing albums for French hip-hop artist MC Solaar. In 1991 they created their first project, called La Funk Mob, and the following year, they started experimenting with a more electronic sound, which lead to Zdar joining Etienne de Crécy in the project Motorbass.

Zdar and Boom Bass then created "Foxxy", their first self-published house music track, in 1996, under the name Cassius, and the moderate success that followed lead to them remixing tracks for acts such as Air and Daft Punk. In January 1999, they released their first single to become a mainstream hit, "Cassius 1999". It was published by Virgin Records, and entered the UK Top 40 chart at number seven. This was soon followed by their debut album, 1999, which had two more singles released from it, "Feeling For You" and "La Mouche". The music videos for "Cassius 1999" and "Feeling for You" portrayed the character Deadman, from DC Comics, as a DJ superhero.

2002 saw their second album release, Au Rêve. This featured the "empowered female disco" track "I'm a Woman", with Jocelyn Brown on vocals, as well as the hit single "The Sound of Violence", featuring Steve Edwards on vocals. This album also had collaborations with Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah and Leroy Burgess.

Cassius returned to the studio in 2006, for the more experimental single "Toop Toop", but the next album, titled 15 Again, features more vocal collaborations than the duo had done with Au Rêve.

While rehearsing their 15 Again album tour, Cassius provided the community with the a cappella track of their single "Toop Toop" and encouraged fans and friends to start remixing the song. It became an immediate success: the band started the Cassius Workshop project and released more a cappellas for remixing purposes. They claim to have received more than 400 remixes[1] since October 2006.

Motorbass "1980" Philippe 'Zdar' Cerboneschi & Etienne de Crécy

Cassius is a French house music duo consisting of producers Philippe Cerboneschi and Hubert Blanc-Francard, better known as Philippe Zdar and Boom Bass.

'Monstrous' Pete Tong Pete Tong's Essential New Tune (w/c 1/06/07) 'This is a great, great record' Jo Whiley Jo Whiley's Pet Sound (w/c 18/06/07) That's right our kid, iO Music continues it's drive to become one of the UK's leading purveyors of all that's electronic and house (hey, just don't call it Electro House!) with this stunning fresh new single from one of the hottest production teams in electronic house, Martin Eyerer and Chi-Thien Nguyen, better known as Chopstick. If you know the difference between house (as in where you live) and house (the music) chances are you'll have heard of these guys. Both hugely influential producers in their own right; Martin with releases on labels such as Ministry Of Sound, Above The Sky, Unsubmissive, alongside numerous collaborations and side projects while Chopstick has released music through Hooj, Silly Spider and his own Criminal Records. Both sides of the team have a huge amount of support from such deck luminaries as Digitalism, Chloe, Moguai, Funk D'void and Tom Neville, whilst the list of artists this duo have remixed include Kosheen, Snap, Cassius, Deep Dish, LL Cool J, XZibit, Britney 'single again' Spears and Madonna. It's fair to say we could actually run out space for famous people, DJs and labels that this duo have either remixed, been supported by or had records released by and that my friend is no easy feat! Originally surfacing as an instrumental around the start of the year as Haunting, German dj/production duo Eyerer & Chopstick got on the phone to their French mate and Cassius front man Philippe Zdar to add his 'cool as' vocal talents to write a hooky lyric and turn this killer slice of 'rocktronica' into Make My Day. Remixes come from mysterious outfit ISI-E who add their own slice of 'zdarlight' styled tough & jackin' house and Mashtronic who keep it electronic but give the mix a spoonful of grunge. Clocking up spins from Tong to Tiga and beyond as an instrumental, the new vocal version has already been named Essential New Tune (1/06/07) plus Jo Whiley's Pet Sound (w/c 18/06/07) at Radio 1 and is shaping up to be an Ibiza & festival anthem for the summer.
